Gethin Jones said he thought he was going to 'quit telly' but started doing one thing differently
I met the popular Morning Live presenter, Gethin Jones as he spoke about one of his latest projects at an event in one of Cardiff's most prestigious hotels, The Park Gate. In conversation surrounding his new role as Chef de Mission for Team Wales ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Gethin reflected on his career journey so far and how he’s overcome previous challenges along the way, as well as his excitement for his brand new role.
He notes: "There was a real moment back, before Covid when I thought I was going to quit telly because it was so bizarre and how the industry was and thought I might go and do something else and figure out plans."
Gethin goes on to explain how his perspective shifted when he joined Morning Live, noting: “But I think what changed when I came to do Morning Live was as I was super critical of myself, I eased a bit on that. I haven’t stopped the same preparation, but my thinking is now- I fluffed a word today, it’s ok, whereas before I would have beaten myself up about it for ages.
“I’m lucky that I’ve got some very good people around me who are willing to tell me when I could do better - they are all so good, and I like to ask them about what they really thought. I also like to think I never make the same mistakes twice and that’s been a good learning curve.”
Gethin noted that the mindset and intentions he is now taking into his new role is centred around storytelling, and putting athletes into the spotlight even more. Read the full article here.
